Bio

Barry has over 20 years of experience in the construction industry. He was the owner of Barton Electric Co., Inc. which employed over 100 people and was in engaged commercial electrical and energy conservation services in the greater NY/NJ metropolitan area. He held Operationsl Manager positions at several firms in North Carolina and was a respected voice in the electrical construction industry there.

Before moving from NC he had become aware of the benefits of safety as a way to improve business processes. The construction industry had not yet fully accepted the link between construction quality and safety. He understood that a focus on safety also improved quality, on time completion, improved employee morale, reduced rework and increased net profitability upwards of 10%.

Arriving in NYC to work as s Safety Consultant in 2008, he was a vocal proponent of safety consulting and training. Since 2014 Barry has successfully trained over 900 people in addition to his primary position as a safety manager/consultant for the NYC School Construction Authority working with ESIS Health, Safety and Environmental (wholly owned subsidiary of Chubb Insurance)

Barry is highly credentialed and has completed OSHA 500 and earned CHST and CRIS certifications. He designs and leads his own classes including OSHA 10 and 30hr. awareness training. He is often retained by clients to evaluate incidents, create action plans and provide preemptive solutions.

10 Hour Construction Industry Certified OSHA Outreach Training

  • Mandatory - 7 hours
  • Introduction to OSHA – 2 hours
  • OSHA Focus Four Hazards – 4 hours
  • Elective - 2 hours. cranes, material handling, excavation, hoists, scaffolds, stairs or tools (minimum of 30 minutes ea.)
  • Optional - 1 hour. Teach other construction industry hazards or policies

30 Hour Construction Industry Certified OSHA Outreach Training

  • Mandatory - 15 hours
  • Introduction to OSHA – 2 hours.
  • OSHA Focus Four Hazards – 6 hours
  • Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment – 2 hours
  • Health Hazards in Construction – 2 hours
  • Managing Safety and Health– 2 hours
  • Stairways and Ladders – 1 hour
  • Elective - 12 hours. concrete, confined space, cranes, hoists, ergonomics, excavations, fire protection, materials handling, Storage, motor vehicles,  powered industrial vehicles, safety and health, scaffolds, steel erection, tools, welding and cutting
